Grand prize winner: Carlos Castro of Spain!
The sixth week of the Top 16 brought and end to Fantasy Challenge for the 2007-08 Euroleague season, but not before making plenty of people happy. That goes for the tens of thousands of participants who made the game competitive, as well as for the best performers among them, who won prizes. The last weekly winner, David Veller of Israel, certainly deserves all that he has coming after his team, The Fakacte, piled up 238.7 points, the most of any weekly winner in the going back eight weeks, including the entire Top 16. David will be rewarded with the official Euroleague game ball, the Nike 4005 Tournament, which made its debut on courts around the continent this season, and a DVD copy of the Euroleague Official Guide for 2007-08. In addition, he will receive a special prize package courtesy of NIKE and will be entered in an upcoming drawing of weekly winners that will net him even more prizes!
Coinciding with the last week of the contest, there are a couple of extra special prize winners to report. The first, Milorad Markovic of Serbia, came back to become the Top 16 champ with his team, Brko Radoje 2, thanks to a total score of 1115.7 points during the six-game phase. Markovic had won the weekly award for the open game of the round, led the overall Top 16 standings in the midde of it, but fell behind going into the final week. A last week score of 191 vaulted Milorad back into first place and gave him the prize that goes with it, his choice of a Euroleague player's jersey! But the big news was that of the grand prize winner, Carlos Castro of Spain, who withstood a strong rally by a second-place challenger to preserve a lead he held consistently since before the turn of the new year. Castro finished with 3,533.3 points after having scored 180.9 points to win the contest by a narrow total of 15 points! For his superb effort in getting the most points total between the 20 weeks of the regular season and Top 16, Castro is the grand prize winner of a trip to the 2008 Final Four in Madrid! He and a friend will be the guests of Euroleague Basketball throughout Final Four weekend, May 2 to 4. Congratulations to Carlos! Stay tuned as more end-of-season prizes are announced in the coming days and thanks again to all Fantasy Challenge players!
